We are home from the doctor and trying to digest all of the information we have been given.  There is a lot to sort through, but we are trying.

Ricky’s surgery will be on Friday, August 22 tentatively set for 7:30 AM.  They are holding off because they need to do two more MRI’s that weren’t available in time for the earlier surgery date.  They will only be able to remove 90% of the tumor, as the last 10% is attached to the area that affects speech.  Due to that fact, they might do part of the surgery with him awake.

Although they believe the tumor to be benign, any tumor is considered an abnormal growth in the body.  He will go through radiation after the surgery and rounds of chemo for one year.  We were not expecting that news, so that was difficult to hear.  They are also switching his anti seizure medicine and he will remain on the new one for the rest of his life.

Due to the seizure, he will be unable to drive for 6 months.  If he were to have another one, the 6 months starts over.  He will have to be my sidekick for at least the next 6 months.  He is sooooooo thrilled about that =)

We absolutely loved Dr. McPherson and feel very confident in his ability to do the surgery.  He had a sense of humor and warmness about him that we enjoyed.  He spent as much time as we needed to answer questions and is available whenever we need him.

Please know that although the news is not as cut and dry as we hoped, we know that God is still in control.  Although the recovery may be lengthy, we will have Him by our side.  Our faith is strong and unwavering.

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

2 Corinthians speaks of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. You are not alone…He is with you every step of your journey. Allow Him to carry you through these times of trouble and allow us, your sister and brother, to be shoulders to lean on at any moment. May you feel His peace, love, and great strength wrap around you tightly.
There is nothing that He cannot do!
We are here for you and you are always in our prayers.
    Lovingly, Carrie and Kevin
