Doctor’s Report

We have just returned from a lengthy doctors appointment.  We met with three different doctors today and each one is an important part of our journey.

The first was with Dr. McPherson, the neurosurgeon.  He was able to remove 90% of the tumor, the last 10% was inoperable and near the corpus callosum.  It was a Grade 3 which is malignant.  So Ricky does have cancer.  Such a scary word to say and type.  Needless to say, we are sad, but our faith is strong. We are just so thankful that it was found before it formed into a Grade 4.  Things could be much worse.

Second, we met with the oncologist.  She went over the chemo that he will receive.  It will coincide with the radiation and will be every day for 6 and a half weeks.  Then he will get a break for 2-4 weeks, and then do monthly treatments for a year.  It is in pill form, so he can do that at home.

Third, we met with the radiologist.  He discussed the radiation that will be 6 and a half weeks in length.  That combined with the chemo is considered to be effective to kill off any remaining cancer cells.  He will go to radiation every morning Mon-Fri for a total off 33 treatments.

The doctors were confident that his cancer is treatable with radiation and chemo.  It will be a long road over the next year, but they said that he has his age and remarkable physical shape on his side.  With all that being said, we are still going to go and get a second opinion.  So we will be flying to MD Anderson in Houston to meet with some cancer specialists.

Please pray for us.  Please pray for strength to get us through this difficult time.  Pray for God to guide us in the best direction for treatment.  Pray for the kids to have an understanding of the situation.  Please pray for God to give them peace and calm in their hearts.  Pray for them to see how wondrous our God is and how He continues to bless our family.

We love you all!

    Ricky and Tracey…
Obviously I was hoping for 100% clean bill of health… but apparently we will walk down this road for a little longer. Know that I check your blog every day and will pray for you absolutely “without ceasing”. I am greatly encouraged that you have such a good prognosis. If I understood correctly… the chemo comes in the form of pills. I’ve never heard of that, but it sounds excellent. You kids are strengthening the faith of so many people who know you. I feel priviledged to be a part of your extended family.

It’s so important to be your own advocate so getting a second opinion is a very smart thing to do. Tracey, we are all with you and are praying for strength for your whole family. Ricky is a fighter and will battle through this. We have no doubt. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ricky and Tracey, We will continue to pray for all of you. I know this was not what you wanted to hear but it is no surprise to God and He already has a plan. I will pray His guidance is very clear to you both. Praying for all of you.

“ I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for”. Jeremiah 29:11 (MsgB)

You will be in our prayers..
    Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the PEACE of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
