Can you imagine having Thanksgiving with out a turkey? Me either. That’s why I’m asking you to accept my turkey challenge. Our church is collecting food donations in hopes to send out 175 baskets into our community. Each one contains a frozen turkey and all the fixings to make a wonderful Thanksgiving meal. However, last year we fell short on frozen turkeys. It just makes me so sad to think that there are families out there that will not have the supplies to fix a full Thanksgiving meal. I know that Thanksgiving is not only about the turkey, trust me, I know. However, I would love for everyone to have the opportunity to have a nice hot turkey.
Soooooo…..what do I want you to do? I am asking for any of you who are able to, to help by donating a frozen turkey. I surely don’t expect you to send one across the US, I will even do the shopping for you. My goal is to be able to donate 10 frozen turkeys on Sunday the 23rd! As long as I have the donations by Friday the 21, that will give me plenty of time to go shop. Will you help me? Just email me or drop a comment and let me know you are on board. I will take any donations and take the family to go pick up turkeys! Please help make a difference on Thanksgiving!
*Edit* I’ve had a few emails asking how much does a turkey cost. I think that $15 per turkey is enough. I think that’s about what I paid last year. If anyone knows any different, please let me know. God just put this on my heart yesterday, and I didn’t check any prices first =)

If you’re shopping for these turkeys prior to the Outreach on Sunday, we’ve got freezer space in the fellowship hall AND in the upstairs the kitchen (off of the Sanctuary), if you need a place to store the turkeys. I will assign someone to be in charge of checking for stored turkeys in those two places on Sunday.
I’m imaging that I am making people really nervous because I have insisted on taken this on yet again…..
……..but I DO have many, many people in place to help me with all of the tasks required to run this large-scale outreach. I am in the process of making assignments…and everyone who has agreed to help will be trained beforehand what their job is, via e-mail, so that I don’t have to expend energy explaining things to everyone on Sunday. And EVERYONE who has volunteered to help has been briefed about the fact that I am very ill.
Oh….and Shelli is going to set me up with a mic and an amp so that I don’t have to exert energy raising my voice.
Tracy will be there to keep tabs on my vitals (although I will be making it very clear that I will only be OK with her morphing into Nurse Tracy if it looks like I’m fatiguing out). And understand that Ray would never have agreed to me doing this if he didn’t feel that it was OK for me to.
This morning, Scott ended his sermon by encouraging people to “make an impact with their one and only life”. That’s all I’m trying to do.
The past two years that I have run this Outreach, I worked myself up into a tizzy those last few days before the Outreach, worrying about whether enough donations would come in to fill all 175 baskets that I committed to handing out. But I’m a lot sicker this year, and I know that it would NOT be a good thing to be worrying. Ironically, I have been reciting THAT VERY VERSE (which you put in your Friday post) over and over again this week: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God”.
Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me to inspire people to donate. It is sad that the two of us were brought together BECAUSE OF two deadly illnesses, but I am sooooo glad that we have become friends!
