Ricky finished up his first round of chemo last Friday night and it turned out ok.  He did have queasiness throughout the week even with the zofran, but it didn’t stop him from eating.  He also did have fatigue that has continued this week as well.  He goes to the oncologist here on the 15th for bloodwork to check his white blood cell and platelet counts.  They need to make sure that they stay at the appropriate level.

Some good news is that the chemo did not affect his speech at all.  We were a little hesitant due to the radiation causing swelling issues, but the first round went well with no swelling.  He is still going to speech three days a week and working on short term memory and explaining things with details.  He is doing awesome in social situations and a majority of the time you wouldn’t know that he has Aphasia!  His therapist is so good and continues to work on things that are relevant to our daily lives.  We feel so blessed that the Lord placed him in our lives.

Ricky is also preparing for his induction into the Hamilton High School Hall of Fame.  That is coming up in February, so he is getting ready to start practicing his acceptance speech.  It is such an honor and he is very excited, but nervous.  I know that the Lord will give him the words for his speech and it will go just fine.

Lily has another gymnastics competition coming up in two weeks, so she is working hard on perfecting her routines.  Hopefully she got the jitters out on her first meet, and will go into this one with more confidence.  It is a very large meet that is hosted by our gym.  There are 79 girls in her level competing that morning!  Wow!  That’s a whole lot of competition!

Riley is, well, just being Riley.  He is loving school and is bummed now that we bumped him back to three days a week.  I have enjoyed just putting Lily on the bus and not having to immediately get in the car and run him to school.  It’s nice to have a couple slower mornings!  He had fun going to the Y and hanging out playing basketball while we worked out this morning.  The child watch area at our Y is amazing.  They really do some neat things with the kids.

This has been a rough week for me.  Not really one thing in particular, more like a lot of little things. It’s one of those days when you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders.  I have had quite a few of these, but God always gives me the words to feel better.   I will make it through by the grace of God.  I’m about to go curl up in bed with my Bible and see what He has in store to help me get through this funk.

So do not fear, for I am with you;
       do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
       I will strengthen you and help you;
       I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

Love to you all!

    Tracey I love watching God work in your family. It really touched my heart to see the pictures of Ricky modeling to his son spending time with their Father. You two are doing an amazing job showing your children how to trust God in the BIG things as well as the little things.

    Gary and I pray for you and your family often.
