Good News Bad News

Ok, so I have some good news and some bad news.  Which do you want to hear first?  If it were me, I would want to hear the bad news first so then the good news could cheer me up.  What about you?  Ok, it doesn’t really matter.  I will start with the bad news…

Ricky is hurt.  It is the first time in his career.  Well, maybe not the first time if you count this one time in Spring Training.  He was messing around and hopped over a sprinkler and tweeked his knee.  I don’t really count it as any injury because it didn’t keep him from pitching, just running.  He got out of running all of spring training.  But this is a painful injury.

He was pitching Saturday night and we were watching on tv.  He threw a pitch and we saw him immediately grab the back of his right leg.  Lily was scared and so was I.  We watched him hobble off the field.  Actually, I didn’t even see when it first happened.  I was washing dishes and missed that pitch.  But, we saw the instant replay.

Thirty minutes later he called and told me his hamstring popped.  I immediately start shooting questions to him and he tells me he is in pain.  He’ll see me in four and a half hours after his bus trip home from Taipei.  Yuck.  He did tell me that it popped so loud that the pitching coach heard it from the dugout.  I knew it couldn’t be good.

So he has been hobbling around for 2 days and finally went to the doctor last night.  They did an ultrasound and told him that he has a partial tear.  Nothing can be done medically, he just needs complete rest for 2 weeks and he will be healed in 5-6 weeks.

So where does the good news come in?  He will be resting it…AT HOME!  We are coming home!  I can’t believe it.  We are leaving on Thursday and will be home Friday.  I have to say that although I am so unbelievably excited to come home, I am also sad that we are leaving in such a bad way.  It is not a good note to leave on, but we knew they needed to make a decision soon anyway.  His two month contract is up on July 12, so they either would sign him for another two months or send us home.  We had a feeling we were going home anyway because they need a starter, but the injury is just really bad timing.

So, we will be home Friday morning.  Early Friday morning.  However, it will actually be Friday evening for us.  Oh wow!  Another difficult adjustment period for us all.  But I am so happy that we will be jet lagged at home!

Lily is so very excited. She jumped up and down this morning and shouted “AWESOME”. Riley has no clue what is going on.  Just feed him and show him the way and he is fine.

Today was their  last day of school and they are sad to be leaving their teachers.  We will miss them so very much.  They are taking us out to dinner tonight at a Japanese restaurant.  They know that Ricky loves sushi, so they want to take him there.  They were concerned about me not finding anything but  I told them I would be fine.  I will be home in a couple days and will have my vitamuffins and fiber one bars back!

We miss you all and will see you soon!
